The Lardizabal-Trivino house located at the towncenter of Boac was the seat of government when Marinduque declared its independence from Spanish rule on April 23, 1898. This transpired nearly two months before the Declaration of Philippine Independence by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite. Marinduque's military governor was Gen. Martin Lardizabal.
